Intro to Big Wall Climbing

We are excited to be partnering with The Climbing School and have Szu-Ting Yi join us to teach this special four-day (4) course in Index!


Learning Outcomes: We'll learn all the skills we need to know to climb entry Big Walls like The Nose of El Cap. Skills include:

  • Appropriate gear selection

  • Aid leading with trad gear and bolts

  • Discussion of aid ratings

  • Pendulums

  • Fixing a line

  • Ascending a fixed line

  • Following an aid pitch (passing gear, lower outs)

  • Big wall transitions

  • Hauling and docking a haul bag

  • Rappelling with a haul bag

  • Assessing pitons and other fixed gear

  • Setting up a port-a-ledge

  • Setting up a comfortable bivy

  • Route finding and topos

Course will be held on site in Index, WA

Prerequisites

  • You have taken Introduction to Trad AND Introduction to Multi-Pitch Courses at COC or another provider

or

  •  have experience leading trad multi pitch climbs at a grade of 5.8 or higher.

  • This is a FOUR (4) day course, running 8/16-19 (Fri-Mon), 8am - 5pm each day. 

Tuition

$400 - 750 (sliding scale, scholarships available)
